Play Texas Holdem at Home
If you’re a poker player, you know that everywhere you play, there is a thrill you won’t get anywhere else. An online Texas Holdem poker room can spur your game to new analytical heights. In a casino there’s the whirr of the slots and clicking of the roulette ball, and around the poker table you are looking at guys who could write a book on how to play Texas Holdem. But sometimes, you want to have a little fun closer to home. You want to get some friends together and play a little poker.

Here are some tips that will make your home game – or home Texas Holdem tournament – easier and more successful. The first thing to do is check the local laws in your area. A really fun night shouldn’t end with the police involved. Then it’s on to the party.
-
The Players
Figure out how big your party is going to be. A tournament will involve a lot more people. It’s easy to do, but you have to plan for it. If it’s just a friendly game with one or two poker tables, make a few calls. Try to keep in mind any friction in the mix. If two of your pals have a feud going, that’s fine, just don’t bring it to the game.
-
The Basics
You’re going to need a couple of basic things: a place to hold the party; poker tables and chairs; poker chips; cards; and of course, lots of food and beverages. If everyone is bringing something, it spreads the work and the players feel more like they are part of the game.
-
Money – Buy Ins, Blinds, and Payouts
Let everybody know up front what the structure of the game is. Give them a heads up when you first call them. If you’re going to have $10/$20 blinds, and Bert is a strictly a fifty-cent/dollar guy, let him know before he shows up. If you’re having a home tournament, make sure the blind levels, payout structures and rules are all posted.

Game Types
Friendly home game or tournament, let all the players know what kind of game you’re playing: cash game, Texas Holdem, strip poker, whatever.
