5 Main Tips Before Playing Poker Game

If you want to really get off to a good start on your next poker game, consider these 5 tips that will help boost your poker strategy.

1. Don’t be afraid to Fold more often

You don’t need to play every hand. It’s OK to just sit back and enjoy the card game. You can spot a rookie by the number of hands he/she plays, new players have a tendency to play every hand. Sometimes you have to know when to sit back and be the audience. When you approach it this way, you will find that you lose less money.

2. Don’t Drink and Play

You’ll wake up the next morning, poorer than yesterday, guaranteed. When you play poker, you have to be sharp, on your feet and focused. No matter what you think or believe, alcohol affects your wit and skill. You will eventually begin to lose. If you’re going to play poker live in a casino or in a tournament, stay off the booze and stay focused.

3. If you’re going to Bluff, bluff only when need to.

Bluffing without motive is stupid and you’ll probably lose. Bluffing doesn’t always work on certain poker players. Sheeeeiii… they have you all figured out after the first betting round. And there is no use in bluffing a player that calls a showdown either. So don’t bluff for the heck of it. If you’re going to bluff, bluff only IF you really need to.

4. Don’t Stay in a Hand for the sake of money

Some players feel that once they put money in the pot, they have to stay in the game until the bitter end. Wrong approach. Look, the money in the pot belongs to the pot  and you are not going to get it back by playing a hand to the end anyway. If you know you cannot pull out the best hand and win, do yourself a favor and fold. It’s ok, bro, it’s all part of the game.

5. Don’t Call at the End of a Hand  just to see if the other player is bluffing.

You might be dying to know if your opponent really has the winning hand but it’s not worth the amounts those type of bets add up to by the end of the night. If you really feel that your opponent has the hand he’s representing then it makes no sense to give him your pile of chips.

Ring Poker Games vs. Poker Tournaments

Poker tournaments are very trendy and modish.  It is true that poker games have been enjoyed for well over one hundred years, but poker tournaments are, essentially, relatively new to the poker world.  Despite its young age, poker tournaments have grown in jackpot and popularity since its inception.

For example, in 1972 the buy in for the eight entrants who wanted to play poker at World Series of Poker was $10,000.  First prize was a mere $80,000.  At the time, this was high stakes in the poker world, but by 2005 the jackpot prize was more than $7 million.  It was entered into by more than 800 individuals who wanted to play poker at a poker table in the World Series of Poker.  Still, not everyone who wants to play poker wants to play at poker tournaments.  Some people prefer the poker tables in ring games.
There are a number of potential benefits to playing at the poker tables in poker rings.  For example, in the poker world, such games feature a less substantial role on the part of luck at the poker tables.  Also, it is much easier to determine whether or not people who play poker at ring games are good or not.  It is not easy, in poker tournaments, to determine whether or not the best poker strategy is being used and the ‘right thing’ is being done by the people at the poker table.
Still, there are potential benefits to be had by those who prefer poker tournaments.  There are many factors in poker tournaments which emphasize the factors of the poker world more so than in ring games.  For example, in poker tournaments the poker chips have different values.  At the same time, domination is much more of a factor when it comes to poker tournaments.  People who play poker in tournaments are going to want dominating hands later in the tournament so that they will be able to dominate others.
Players will obviously have to choose for themselves which type of poker game is most favorable to them as individuals.  Some people will prefer one type of poker game over the other.  Hopefully by learning of the differences in these poker games, players can make a more informed decision.

Learning More about Texas Holdem Poker

Learning More about Texas Holdem Poker

Texas Holdem is much more enjoyable when you understand the rules, as well as the game’s action sequence.  Texas holdem poker rules are fairly straightforward.  By understanding the progression of the poker game, players can form a more effective poker strategy.  Learn to play Texas Holdem poker to make the game more enjoyable and increase the odds of seeing profits.

-
To begin, players in the poker game are each dealt two face down poker cards, known as the pocket cards.  The first round of betting takes place and then the poker table dealer turns over the community cards, known as the flop, which are face up on the poker table.  Then second round of poker game betting takes place.  Following the poker table dealer turning over the next card for the community, known as the turn, the third round of betting takes place.

The poker game dealer turns over the last community card, the river, and the final betting round is held.  Then the poker table players enjoy the showdown, where poker rules illustrate players may use either both pocket poker cards supplemented by three board cards, one pocket card and four poker cards on the table for the community or all five poker cards, referred to as playing the board, to make an advantageous hand.

-
Online poker games feature poker rules which are not much different from offline poker rules regarding betting.  There are four possible rounds and the limits are much lower for the first two rounds of betting at the poker table.  Poker table wagers are higher during the last two rounds.  Most poker games have a limit for the number of bets permitted per betting round, but this is not the case for No Limit or Pot Limit poker games.

When poker games have varying poker table dealers, a dealer button is used to show who the dealer is.  For online poker games, this is theoretical.  The button moves clockwise for each hand.  The first player to the left of the button posts half the lower limit bet for the hand, rounded to the nearest and lowest dollar amount, and this is called the small blind.  The person to the left of this player posts the big blind, which is equal to the poker table lower limit bet amount.  Players may call, check, raise or fold at this time.

Bluffing in Texas Holdem

Bluffing in Texas Holdem

When you walk into a casino, most games of chance are pretty straightforward.  Roulette, craps, slot machines…you make your bet then see if you win, depending on the spin of the wheel, roll of the dice and the one-armed bandit.  But poker is different. More interactive.  And not just online poker.
During a poker game, you get a chance to up your bet and change the odds. Especially in Texas Holdem.  Some people like to pull out their poker calculators to see what percentage chance to win they have.  Others just count the poker chips in front of them.  But it is really a pretty simple game.  Good hands win, poor hands lose.
But not always.  That’s where everyone’s favorite poker strategy comes in.  The bluff. Most beginners love the idea of bluffing.  It often takes years and lots of lost pots before they realize there is a time and a place to bluff.  Especially in a game of Texas Holdem.  Let’s look at a few of them.

You bet pre-flop and didn’t get the draw

But they don’t know you didn’t get the poker cards you needed.  Of course, you didn’t get the cards, so this can be dicey.  Take a good long look at the board and the other players.  If you’re holding 5-6 hoping to fill a straight, don’t do it.  But AK or a pair could pull it off.

On the river

If it looks like the drawing hands missed, it is time to strike.  A lot of players will fold, others might stay in just because of pot odds, so this is a good situation to bluff with a weak hand, say a low pair or Ace high. Not every winning hand in Texas Holdem has to have good cards.

You’re in late position and all other players checked.
This is a pretty common place to try to bluff.  Most of the other players at the poker table know it, and you may have some players staying in just to keep you honest.  If you’ve been able to make this move several times during the game when you had good cards, then it becomes a much easier poker strategy to pull off.

Do I Need a Poker Calculator Now?

Do I Need a Poker Calculator Now?

-
Calculators for poker games have seen an increase in growth over the last few years as poker game enthusiasts realize that they could actually use one to improve their poker strategy, winnings and appearance at their poker table.  This area of poker game equipment is growing at lightening speed with a variety of different angels to cover.  Sure, the items are trendy but who really needs a poker calculator and how do they know they need a poker calculator?

-

Competition for poker games is everywhere.  Odds are when you play online poker, the competitors at your poker table are already clutching their poker calculator devices.  A poker calculator could help you just to stay up with what everyone else is bringing to the poker game.
-
It has been calculated that at a poker table, at least two other players in the poker game have a poker calculator, limiting the odds of the other players winning.  But this is not the only reasons to have a poker calculator on hand during poker games.  Here are more scenarios to consider for purchasing a poker calculator: when the credit card bill has fewer charges from your wife on it, when you can quote the exact and precise details for a number of reload bonuses from your poker games, when your favorite online poker game site keeps sending you notices and e-mails thanking you for your business, when another online poker game site purchased your email from your current favorite poker game webpage, when you notice that you’re being followed from table to table by a certain few players, when the competitors at the poker table seem to talk to you in an overly-chatty manner and you always seem to be the first one to leave your poker table, when you finally win a hand at the poker game you find many players are offering you ‘nice hand’ messages, when every day your online poker game account closes with approximately $5, when your dog seems to be snickering at you as you play online poker (and lose often…) and, lastly, when you’re beginning to see the appeal of BlackJack when compared to poker games – especially the way you’ve been playing lately.

Don’t Leave Money on the Table – Texas Holdem Betting Tips

Don’t Leave Money on the Table – Texas Holdem Betting Tips

When playing Texas Holdem, it’s always a pleasant surprise to find yourself with great cards.  Too many poker players lose their heads. They bet big and leave money– or poker chips — on the table.  Their excitement has chased all the chickens from the coop.  When you’ve got a strong hand, here are some poker strategies to maximize your winnings.
Check first – then raise
You know your cards are strong, so check, and let someone else make a bet.  That gives you a chance to raise when the turn comes back your way.  Say you are looking at the Queen of hearts and 10 of clubs.  The flop is Qs – Jh-5d. You check.  The next players check too.  A player in a late position bets.  THEN you raise.  The idea behind this Texas Holdem strategy is that you make it too costly for someone trying to draw a flush or straight to stick around.  If you check & raise from an early position, you’re in control of the poker table.  And even if you get called, you have got a good idea about what they’re holding, AND forced them to push a lot of poker chips into the middle of the table just for trying to outdraw you.
Semi-bluffs
A semi-bluff is just what it sounds like.  It’s not a complete bluff.  You almost have a hand, you just need one more card. You make a bet or raise, knowing you need to pull the draw.  The other players might throw in and you’ll win, but even if they don’t, you still might hit your draw and win that way.  Say you’re holding Ad-10d and the flop is Ac-8d-3d. This gives you a flush draw with 9 cards still out.   Whether you’re playing poker in a poker room at a casino or online, it is a handy tool. If everyone checks, keep betting even though your hand isn’t the best at that moment.  Players with a low pair might fold.  Even if they don’t, you have 9 chances to draw the flush and an additional 5 outs to win if you hit an Ace or a 10.

Poker Pot Control Issues

Poker Pot Control Issues

Learning to control poker pots is a very important and potentially profitable poker strategy for players to acquire and implement.  With the right information, poker games can become much more productive and effective.  By learning to control the pot on the poker table, players involved in poker games can make the most of their potential wins.  The rule of thumb for such poker games is to play large pots with big hands and, when holding marginal hands, keep the pot small.  Still, how can poker players accomplish this?  Through poker strategy application!

-

The best way to keep the poker table pot small is to skip a round of betting.  In limit and pot limit poker games, the poker game bets tend to increase for each round of betting.  The bets may go from three poker chips, to six poker chips, to twenty poker chips and finally to about sixty poker chips.  However, when a player checks a round, the poker table will not see the last bet (ie – that sixty poker chips bet).  This poker strategy is easiest to do when the player is in a late position at the poker table.  When sitting in an early position at the poker table, players can always hope that their poker table opponents will check. However, if they bet, players will still have to come up with an alternate plan.

-

Another important part of this poker game poker strategy is to build the pot for big hands.  Then, it is important to keep the betting rounds from being checked.  When at an early position at the poker table, don’t slow play the hand and try bet out at almost every opportunity, slowing down only to mix it up and provide more unpredictable poker game play.  When at a late position at the poker table, players need to read the situation and make the best call.

-
Also, remember that there are a number of individual behaviors which may cause other players at the poker table to either bet or not.  In some cases, a small or controlled bet may cause the other poker table players to doubt and call or induce a huge bet.  Predicting reactions of other poker table players causes individuals to really be involved in the game and focused.  This struggle helps add to the appeal and challenge of the game of poker.
